Tramadol 50mg tablet / capsules is an opioid analgesic also called Novartis classified under opiates or narcotics and being prescribed by doctors or Physicians when the patient is under regular mild pain to moderate pain and at times under intense chronic pain after operations or long surgery. This medicine is taken orally as per prescription with water or juice preferred as some times this may lead to low sugar. Tramadol 50mg provides pain relief effects within an hour. There is an extended release form also which is usually not used on need basis however been given round the clock pain treatment like acute surgeries.
Usage and Dosage
Tramadol 50mg is a pain management analgesic which is given when the alternative medicines or treatment is not sufficient to anchor the regular or chronic pain.
Tramadol 50mg is strongly not recommended for patients below 17 years. Its 50mg oral dose is prescribed every 6-9 hours as per the need and is observed for 3 days. Usually the effect starts within an hour and remains for 9 hours. Maximum dosage is 400 mg a day.
Again the age for prescribing Tramadol 50mg is strictly for adults. The dosage in 50mg for Chronic pain relief is every 3-4 hours and is observed for 5 days. Maximum dosage is 400 mg a day.
Do’s and Don’ts
Tramadol 50mg usage should prescribed 400 mg a day for adults up to 75 years and for more than 75 years it should 300 mg a day. This is considered as narcotic analgesic hence strictly not to be prescribed children under 18 years.
In case of change from any other opioid – Other opioid should be discontinued 24 hours before starting the Tramadol treatment with dosage of 50mg orally twice a day. 24 to 72 hours monitoring of patient is utmost required for any kind of respiratory depression from the start of Tramadol treatment following increase of dosage if required.
For patients with mild or moderate pain do not required to take the medicine frequently so as to increase tolerability. Tramadol 50mg is also not recommended to Obese to avoid respiratory depression issues.
